Everything You Need to Know About Invisalign

Malocclusion (literally translating to “bad bite”) is a modern epidemic. Approximately a fifth of the US population has some degree of malocclusion, and 50 to 70% of US children will wear braces. There has also been a significant rise in adult braces, as the value we place on perfectly straight teeth has continued to rise.

When you are a child, braces aren’t a choice you personally make—it’s a decision made between your parents or guardians and orthodontist. However, making the decision to straighten your teeth as an adult is something you do have control over. For many adults, though, it is a difficult decision to commit to (not everyone is all gung-ho about embracing a mouth full of metal).

Fortunately, that isn’t your only choice! Invisalign has revolutionized the way we correct malocclusion.

Here’s everything you need to know about Invisalign from Parker Dentistry, a Hollywood cosmetic and family dental practice specializing in Invisalign.

But first, is there more to straightening your teeth than just the desire to have an aesthetically beautiful smile?

5 Health Risks of Crooked Teeth

Misaligned teeth can cause mayhem in your mouth! (1) For starters, overlapping teeth are more difficult to keep clean, leading to plaque buildup, tooth decay, and gum disease. (2) Crooked teeth are also more prone to injury, such as chips. (3) Malocclusion can lead to bite problems, (4) increased wear of tooth enamel, and (5) jaw joint pain. So, as you can see, straightening your teeth is far more than just a cosmetic decision; it is an oral health decision, too.

Is Invisalign Right for Everyone?

Invisalign is approved for both teens and adults with varying degrees of malocclusion. To find out if you are a candidate for Invisalign, a simple consultation with Dr. Blake or Dr. Steve is all that is needed!

What Is the Invisalign Treatment Process?

As explained by Invisalign, “Invisalign treatment starts with a consultation with an Invisalign-trained doctor. Your doctor will evaluate your smile and then map out a precise, customized digital treatment plan that showcases the step-by-step transformation of your smile.

Once you approve your plan, your unique aligners will be created. You will wear each set of aligners for 20 to 22 hours a day, changing to a new set of aligners every 1 to 2 weeks, as directed by your doctor. Each set of aligners will gently and gradually shift your teeth into place until you reach your beautiful new smile.

Too easy!

How Long Do You Have to Wear Invisalign For?

Treatment time will vary depending on your unique case. However, the average length of treatment is typically 9 to 15 months, with an average of 18 to 30 aligners. You’ll come in and see us about every 6 weeks during your treatment to ensure that everything is progressing as planned. The amazing thing about Invisalign, though, is you’ll start to see results very quickly!

5 Major Pros of Invisalign

1. Invisalign is nearly invisible, unlike braces (as you know)!
2. You don’t have to avoid particular foods or beverages during your treatment since you remove your aligners when eating and drinking.
3. While a brand-new aligner will feel tight when you first put it in, Invisalign is virtually painless.
4. Keeping your teeth (and your aligners) clean during your treatment is easy.
5. You’ll see noticeable results quickly and with each new aligner.
