This week, Parker Wellness conducted an interview with the Dr. Steve Parker, and would like to share with you the deeper side of him. Dr. Steve is a dedicated, insightful, warmhearted, candid, and not to mention hilarious, family man, friend, and active member of the community. He is passionate and progressive about his work, and he prides himself on staying at the forefront of cutting edge dentistry.
PW: Tell me about you! Who is Steve Parker, aside from being a dentist?
DS: I would define myself as a man who loves his family, and cherishes the time I get to spend with them. I have the fondest memories of summers in the Keys, weekends cruising around on the boat, and countless little adventures that we all shared together. I feel fortunate that these memorable moments have continued in our family, and that my relationship with my wife and my children is stronger than ever. Now that my kids are independent adults, our relationships has evolved into a great friendships, and I feel blessed to have that with them.
I also enjoy spending my free time golfing and fishing. I have been passionate about both of these activities my entire life. I love playing in golf tournaments with Blake and my dad, and with the other golfers that I have become acquainted with at Grand Oaks. I spend quite a bit of time out on the greens. It is my way to let go, to relax, to clear my mind, and to have some fun. I can’t remember a time when I didn’t fish. I grew up doing it, and find that there are few things better than catching your own dinner. I do most of my fishing these days in Islamorada.
Finally, community service is an aspect of my life that is extremely important to me. I learned at a young age from my father, Dr. Tom, that serving your community is just part of life. It is something that we should all do, regardless of how small or big our efforts are. If we all stand to make our communities a better place for all of us to live and thrive, we are in turn helping to make the world a better place.
PW: What led you to this path of becoming a dentist?
DS: The simple answer is my father. Dr. Tom shared with me the vision of how I could lead a productive life, while offering a great service to the people of my community. I grew up watching the way that he worked hard for his family, and to help the people of his community improve their health and overall wellbeing. As I got older, I realized the importance of what he was doing, and I could envision myself following in those footsteps. This path was the path that I was supposed to take.
PW: How long have you been practicing dentistry? Tell me about the progression of dentistry, and specifically your practice over that period of time.
DS: I have been practicing dentistry for 32 years. I have continuously followed and trained for the progression and advancements of modern dentistry. It is important to me to stay at the cutting edge of dentistry, and to offer advanced cosmetic, restorative, orthodontic, and full mouth rehabilitations using state-of-the-art technology, like lasers, CAD-cam, and Invisalign. It is my promise to myself, and to my patients to always provide the best possible options and treatment.
PW: What do you love most about your job?
DS: I love being able to serve my community. It is highly rewarding knowing that I have a part in improving the lives and health of my patients. I also take great pride in providing dentistry in a calm, and competent manner, with the intention of helping people overcome their fears and hesitations about going to the dentist.
PW: What are your feelings about having Blake come into the practice in the next few weeks? What are your expectations? Goals? What do you think about having three generations of dentists working together?
DS: I could not be more proud or excited to have Blake as the third generation dentist in our family. It is a great testament to Dr. Tom that he was able to motivate his son and grandson to continue the tradition. Blake will bring a new excitement, energy, intelligence, and techniques into our practice.
PW: Why do you think Parker Dentistry Facial Rejuvenation and Wellness is different from other dental practices?
DS: We provide complete comprehensive dentistry in a calm, efficient, economical, honest, and compassionate manner. All of our patients are treated equally, and offered the same respect and opportunities to achieve their optimal oral health. Our facial rejuvenation and wellness program is rarely found in other offices, and it demonstrates our commitment to complete health and wellness.
Thank you Dr. Steve! And, thank you everyone for sharing a smile with us this week!
As the highly anticipated and new addition to the Parker Dentistry Facial Rejuvenation and Wellness team, we thought it was appropriate to showcase Dr. Blake Parker first in our monthly series highlighting one by one our dedicated and extraordinary staff members. Many of you have probably met Blake at one point or another, but today we are going to take a deeper look into who Dr. Blake Parker is through an interview that was recently conducted.
PW: Tell me about you! Who is Blake, aside from a being a dentist?
B: First of all, I am a Gator, through and through. My claim to fame was in my seven years at the University of Florida for undergraduate and dental school, I never missed a single home game and also never once left early from the Swamp. Some years were, of course, better than others, but I was and still am proud to have been there for it all. Now, I am looking forward to going back and experiencing the games and fanfare as an alumnus.
When the Gators aren’t playing, I enjoy being outside. I love spending my free time golfing, fishing, and pretty much anything else that involves being out on and in the water. I also am a firm believer in keeping a balanced mind and body and for the past seven years, I have been done that through the practice of yoga.
I have relished in the multiple opportunities I’ve had as a child and as an adult to travel and while I am ready to put down some roots and commit to this next chapter in my life, traveling is something I will continue to cherish and incorporate into my life. The end of August is the beginning of a whole new life and I couldn’t be more excited!
PW: What led you to this path of becoming a dentist?
B: Growing up, I always said I wanted to be a dentist. There was never a question in my mind of doing something different. I continually witnessed the impact my dad and grandfather had on the community and that always moved me and further motivated me to want to do the same one day. Joining the Pre-Med program at American Heritage when I was in high school cemented within me my passion and love for the sciences, and even more so once I started working in the office during my summer vacations.
At UF, I wanted to study something that would not only meet the criteria for dental school, but would also equip me with real world and practical knowledge. This is what ultimately led me to the major of food sciences and human nutrition. I quickly discovered my affection for this study and know it is something that I will to continue to pursue. I realize the importance of nutrition as it applies to our day-to-day life, but I also truly believe that it is going to continue to play an exponentially increasing role in medicine. Like dentistry, nutrition is all about prevention.
Dental school was nothing short of amazing. The University of Florida has consistently been ranked one of the top three dental programs in the country. I know I can always rely on the mentors I gained from my time at UF; they are invaluable. The university has remained on the cutting edge of new technology and research and being surrounded by such prestige is what really sparked my drive to be a continuous and life long learner.
PW: What are your expectations upon entering the practice and what do you hope to contribute as the newest team member?
B: I am looking forward to joining a practice that is already a cornerstone of the community and to continue to provide the excellent level of care that is synonymous with Parker Dentistry. I am also looking forward to getting more involved in the community.
Additionally, as part of our name suggests, I want to focus on the “wellness” aspect of dentistry and overall health. I am confident with my background and continuing education, I can add another element of preventative medicine into our practice. This is one of my true passions and I am eager to share it with all of our patients.
PW: What does it mean to you to be a third generation dentist?
B: I have said it before and I will say it again, I am extremely fortunate to have a family filled with such positive role models and guides. A moment that will forever be engrained in my memory and shed light on the uniqueness of being the third dentist in my family is when both my father and my grandfather hooded me at my graduation this year. It felt like the preverbal passing of the torch. As I start this professional journey, I know that I have a lot to accomplish and a lifetime of learning ahead of me, but I am ready. I believe I can confidently stand up to the challenges and take advantage of the opportunities that will arise in the future. I’ve had great guidance and mentorship leading up to this moment and I am grateful to know that I will continue to have that support as I move forward as a dentist and active leader in the community.
PW: You can see this fresh Parker face in this office at the end of the summer!
Thanks for sharing a smile with us this week! Blake looks forward to sharing countless smiles with you in the near future.
