The Third Doctor Parker is here, but he goes by Dr. Blake!

As the highly anticipated and new addition to the Parker Dentistry Facial Rejuvenation and Wellness team, we thought it was appropriate to showcase Dr. Blake Parker first in our monthly series highlighting one by one our dedicated and extraordinary staff members. Many of you have probably met Blake at one point or another, but today we are going to take a deeper look into who Dr. Blake Parker is through an interview that was recently conducted.

PW: Tell me about you! Who is Blake, aside from a being a dentist?

B: First of all, I am a Gator, through and through. My claim to fame was in my seven years at the University of Florida for undergraduate and dental school, I never missed a single home game and also never once left early from the Swamp. Some years were, of course, better than others, but I was and still am proud to have been there for it all. Now, I am looking forward to going back and experiencing the games and fanfare as an alumnus.

When the Gators aren’t playing, I enjoy being outside. I love spending my free time golfing, fishing, and pretty much anything else that involves being out on and in the water. I also am a firm believer in keeping a balanced mind and body and for the past seven years, I have been done that through the practice of yoga.

I have relished in the multiple opportunities I’ve had as a child and as an adult to travel and while I am ready to put down some roots and commit to this next chapter in my life, traveling is something I will continue to cherish and incorporate into my life. The end of August is the beginning of a whole new life and I couldn’t be more excited!

PW: What led you to this path of becoming a dentist?

B: Growing up, I always said I wanted to be a dentist. There was never a question in my mind of doing something different. I continually witnessed the impact my dad and grandfather had on the community and that always moved me and further motivated me to want to do the same one day. Joining the Pre-Med program at American Heritage when I was in high school cemented within me my passion and love for the sciences, and even more so once I started working in the office during my summer vacations.

At UF, I wanted to study something that would not only meet the criteria for dental school, but would also equip me with real world and practical knowledge. This is what ultimately led me to the major of food sciences and human nutrition. I quickly discovered my affection for this study and know it is something that I will to continue to pursue. I realize the importance of nutrition as it applies to our day-to-day life, but I also truly believe that it is going to continue to play an exponentially increasing role in medicine. Like dentistry, nutrition is all about prevention.

Dental school was nothing short of amazing. The University of Florida has consistently been ranked one of the top three dental programs in the country. I know I can always rely on the mentors I gained from my time at UF; they are invaluable. The university has remained on the cutting edge of new technology and research and being surrounded by such prestige is what really sparked my drive to be a continuous and life long learner.

PW: What are your expectations upon entering the practice and what do you hope to contribute as the newest team member?

B: I am looking forward to joining a practice that is already a cornerstone of the community and to continue to provide the excellent level of care that is synonymous with Parker Dentistry. I am also looking forward to getting more involved in the community.

Additionally, as part of our name suggests, I want to focus on the “wellness” aspect of dentistry and overall health. I am confident with my background and continuing education, I can add another element of preventative medicine into our practice. This is one of my true passions and I am eager to share it with all of our patients.

PW: What does it mean to you to be a third generation dentist?

B: I have said it before and I will say it again, I am extremely fortunate to have a family filled with such positive role models and guides. A moment that will forever be engrained in my memory and shed light on the uniqueness of being the third dentist in my family is when both my father and my grandfather hooded me at my graduation this year. It felt like the preverbal passing of the torch. As I start this professional journey, I know that I have a lot to accomplish and a lifetime of learning ahead of me, but I am ready. I believe I can confidently stand up to the challenges and take advantage of the opportunities that will arise in the future. I’ve had great guidance and mentorship leading up to this moment and I am grateful to know that I will continue to have that support as I move forward as a dentist and active leader in the community.

PW: You can see this fresh Parker face in this office at the end of the summer!

Thanks for sharing a smile with us this week! Blake looks forward to sharing countless smiles with you in the near future.
