It's Time for Tea Part 1

It is official. The New Year is really here, the holiday party season is over, and it’s time to get back on track. After the run between Thanksgiving and the New Year’s countdown coming to that pinnacle moment, a lot of us are probably feeling the accumulated effects of holiday feasting, increased alcohol intake, and the up and down end of the year stress levels. Not to fret though, this month Parker Wellness will be offering valuable information, tips, and motivation on how to easily transition back to normal and start off the year with a bang.

A very easy and delicious addition to your day or evening should be a cup or two of tea. There are four types of true tea: white, green, oolong, and black tea. Herbal teas, like chamomile and hibiscus come from nontraditional tea plants and provide different benefits. Today, we are just going to focus on the four main types of traditional teas and their specific health benefits. While drinking tea has several benefits to your physical health, the time that you take to stop and enjoy that cup of tea can also provide several mental benefits. We will take a look at both. As we’ve talked about before, little positive additions to your daily routine can make monumental differences in your daily life. This might be one of them.

White Tea: White tea is considered to be one the healthiest teas. It is only harvested for a few days during the spring and is exposed to almost zero processing. It is nutrient-rich and super high in antioxidants. White tea is also very high in a rare amino acid called theanine. The combination of high levels of antioxidants and this specific amino acid can help fight aging, cancer, and other diseases. It can also lower anxiety and stress levels, promote positivity and happiness, strengthen the immune system, and sharpen concentration. This tea is in high demand and for very good reason.

Green Tea: Green tea is a powerhouse tea! The benefits of incorporating this into your diet should make it a no brainer. Green tea is rich in EGCG, Epigallocatechin gallate, which is one of the most powerful antioxidants. Let’s take a look at some of the major benefits of regularly drinking green tea.

  • Helps improve brain function and can reduce your risk of Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s disease
  • Reduces the risk of various types of cancer, such as breast, prostate, and colorectal
  • Can reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease
  • Can help you reduce and maintain a healthy weight
  • Can increase longevity
  • Helps kill and further inhibit the growth of the most common and harmful mouth bacteria, Streptococcus mutans. This bacterium is one of the main causes of plaque formation, cavities, tooth decay, and bad breath.

At the end of the weekend, we will finish up and look at the two other types of tea and why you should make tea a part of your life.
